Paul's Books is located on State St. in Madison, WI.

I remember the store fondly, taking refuge from the cold and sometimes skipping class to relax and find an amazingly odd or old book to read. The floors creek, some places your can barely fit in between the shelves, there are clippings and images that date +50 years all over the place and they have selections that rival any bookstore.

It saddens me greatly to not visit it anymore.

Just like Bookplace, right near me in PA. It's a small used bookstore run by a kind old man who teaches at the Temple University. The first book I got there was 70 years old and beautiful in it's own aged, beat-up way. It's a collection of detective stories, from Poe, and even one from Mark Twain and many others, and it was only four dollars. Everywhere you walk there are books of all kinds, and it's like a home away from home.

I think the world needs more of these homely stores than the clean and polished chain stores. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but these are still my favorite places to be. <3
